T.J. dislikes his current job greatly. T.J. greatly dislikes the weaselly ways of some of his co-workers and how they treat him for how he does things that he was -not- hired to do. T.J. also wishes evil things at some of his co-workers.

But rather going into a rant about it (maybe later on in this thread), T.J. wants to ask the people of Prie Village. Part-time or full-time, what is the worst job you've ever had, and why?

That's a toss-up between two jobs.

First is my first job at the Potato Bakehouse. My parents, the ones who were pushing me to find a job in the first place, told me to quit that place after a month when they expected me to work a 20-hour shift over a weekend. And my school days were loooooong so all I ever did was eat, sleep, study and work. Turned me into a zombie over a fortnight.

The job I got after that I stuck with for 14 months at a clothes store in the UK. I started off doing 4 days a week, which whittled down to 3 days, then 2. It was the most mind-numbingly BORING job I'd ever had. They never gave me anything interesting to do, and to rub salt in the wound my most incompetent co-worker got promoted and thought she was the bee's knees, acting condescending towards everyone. The final straw came when one of my bosses started depriving me of water (I worked under hot lamps all day).

Dude, you just described my current situation as well. That having been said, though, this is not the worst job I've ever had.

The worst ever was a temp job I took when I graduated from college. I just needed something to pay my rent while I was searching for a real job. I had done factory work before, so I agreed to take a job the temp agency offered me at a book packing factory for Harlequin (yes, the ones that make those cheesy romance novels). Not only was it second shift (3:00 pm to 11:00 pm), which I hate, but it was 8 hours of picking books up, putting them on the conveyor belt, picking books up, putting them on the conveyor belt, picking... okay, you get the idea. And I had to bend over to grab the books out of the boxes. By the end of my first day my back was killing me, but I told myself I'd try to stick it out for at least a week. Halfway through my second day I decided that once that shift was over I wasn't going back. I could barely move without feeling pain the following day.

I could also tell the story of how I got fired for blogging bad things about the last company I worked for, but that's another story.

I've got a toss-up deal too.

The first was a job I was taking during the summer break between college semesters to make some money (and be less poor). It was part-time at a new fast food restaurant. They stuck me in the kitchen making eggs (from a carton) all...day...long. If I was lucky I got to toast buns for chicken sandwiches or dip the hash brown thingies in the big grease thing. One day I actually got to do that for the chicken meal and accidentally dropped a piece on the nasty, greasy floor. I went to throw it away and a manager yelled at me not to waste the food, the germs were gonna be cooked off anyway. >P Yuck! Aside from that the job was hot, boring, and chances of grease burns/falls was pretty high. After they gave me some ridiculous work hours I said enough was enough and quit. I think that lasted between 1-2 weeks ('training' period included).

The second was one of those I took after college when, like roofpig, I needed an in-between job to pay the bills until I got something better. Oh boy, I didn't even make it through the first day. My mom recommended me to this guy who worked in a furniture business where they stuffed sofa cushions and such. You'd think that'd be a pretty cushy job (excuse the pun) but when you add a ton of strong smelling glue, 3-4 to a stack, and try to move all that across the warehouse between spurts of boredom and going fast-paced Di's dinky little muscles don't fare so well. I couldn't keep a grip on the darn things without thinking I was gonna tear 'em. I was COVERED from head to toe in glue within the hour. Half the time I had no clue what in the world to do (and had to chase somebody down to find out). And on the first break I nearly gagged to death on second hand smoke from pretty much everyone else in the break room. So tired, sticky, and pretty bummed out I had to tell the guy the job wasn't for me. I hated that I couldn't cut it and dreaded telling my mom as much after she'd recommended me. The guy was nice enough to pay me for the hours I worked though.

I would have to say the worst job I had was in high school. I was a courtesy clerk for Albertson's Grocery Store, which was just a fancy way of saying I was a bagger with more responsibilities. And when I say more responsibilities, I mean awful ones.
Not only did I have to bag grocercies, but I had to sweep the floors, bring in the carts, and clean. At night I had to clean the women's and men's restrooms and it was not pretty. The guy's restroom was a nightmare! How does one deficate on the wall? It was disgusting!
I think that had to be the worst job of all.

And even worse than that was the fact that they kept dangling a raise and a promotion to cashier in front of my face like a preverbial carrot. Yet, they really had no desire to do either. I was kept a minion and suffered like a minion for a year for them. The only reason I stayed there is that I needed the money. Thankfully I went on to bigger and better things after leaving that Hellhole. On the plus side it was good to find out that another chain ran them out of business about a year after I left.
Poetic justice, my friends. I would not do that job again for anything.

The worst job that I've had was with a fast food restaurant. The job itself wasn't too bad, I was the cashier at the drive-thru, so I just had to take the orders and collect the money. The things that made it so bad was that I was waaaay in the back and as long as I didn't screw up, the managers would forget about me, and I'd have to flag someone down from up front, or hunt them down if I could get away from the register, inorder to get a break. Also I don't have a car, so I was walking to and from work. Now, it was only about half a mile, so it wasn't a bad walk. But I was opening, which meant that it was always at 4:30 am, and it was about -30 to -40 outside. I only lasted about five or six weeks, and once I got offered another job on campus, I was gone.
